Available spots
Service Description
Preserve history, one window at a time — and rediscover the craftsmanship that built America. Join C.J. and Stacy Frost for a hands-on workshop dedicated to the traditional art of restoring historic wood windows. C.J. Frost is a licensed builder in Michigan, a traditional woodworker, and a professional preservation craftsman. With over 20 years of experience in the building trades — including work on historic landmarks and museums across the country — C.J. brings a deep understanding of craftsmanship, materials, and architectural history to every project. Historic wood windows are more than just architectural details; they’re integral to the character and authenticity of old buildings. Yet too often, they’re discarded and replaced with inferior modern units. This workshop teaches you how to repair, rebuild, and preserve original windows the right way — using traditional tools, materials, and methods that ensure beauty, longevity, and historical integrity. Through a blend of demonstration and hands-on practice, you’ll learn how to: • Remove sashes from openings • Safely remove old paint & glazing • Replace broken glass panes • Reglaze & finish for durability • Reassemble & reinstall windows What's Included: • Hands-On Practice: Work on real historic wood windows under close supervision. • All Materials & PPE: Tools, protective gloves, masks, & safety equipment provided. • Learning Aids: Your own practice sash to take home. • Comprehensive Handouts: Step-by-step guides & diagrams to take home. • Food: Lunch & light refreshments provided.
